Student Osteopathic Surgical Association
(Branch of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons)

The goal of the Student Osteopathic Surgical Association of Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine is to help educate our members and the school in general about all of the surgical opportunities available, while at the same time honing their clinical skills in preparation for clinical rotations and practice in general. We are also active in our community.

Our Mission

  • It is our pleasure to welcome you into one of the most exciting -yet draining - experiences of your life! The upcoming year holds many opportunities and it is up to you to take full advantage of them.
  • For those of you interested in a surgical specialty or subspecialty, or are merely interested in advancing yourself for a 3rd-year clinical rotation, the Surgery Club is for you. SOSA is one of the largest organizations on campus, offering interesting speakers ranging from:
    • Neurosurgeons
    • Trauma Surgeons
    • Vascular Surgeons
    • Orthopedics
    • Plastic/Reconstructive Surgeons
  • Some of these surgeons are even graduates of NSU and may offer elective rotations during your 4th year! A few of the other features that are offered include:
    • casting clinics
    • scrub clinics
    • suture clinics
  • All of the above will prepare you for your rotations, as well as:
    • surgeon shadowing opportunities
    • national/regional conferences
    • opportunity to run for local and national office (great for your C.V.)
  • There is one other "perk" of belonging to an Anatomically-oriented group of individuals -- You guessed it: Gross Anatomy Reviews! It is well known that the Surgery Club has the most knowledgeable tutors and the most thorough and time-efficient Anatomy reviews that NSU has to offer! Even if you are not thinking of a surgical specialty, these reviews are worth the membership dues alone!!
  • Just Remember: Surgery is a required core rotation during your 3rd year and it can be painfully embarrassing to show up unprepared. Let us prepare you for what to expect!
